Maya…

So, I have been working on learning how to use Maya, a 3D program all by myself. Only problem is… I cant find any tutorials that are step by step for beginners. Some will tell me where things are but they wont tell me the simplistic stuff that they assume everyone knows. It is pretty frustrating since I cannot take a course in it so until I can, I guess I will just dabble with it. If anyone can find some good tutorials please let me know.

The Social Network Review

Lying. Deceiving. Computer Nerds. What do these all have in common? These three components were what went into the biggest social networking site in the world; Facebook. The movie, The Social Network, directed by David Fincher, is based on the true story of Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg’s (Jesse Eisenberg) rise to fame. Inside of his Harvard dormroom, Mark started the Facebook with an idea for everybody to be able to know what there friends were doing. They would know there relationship status, what they were doing last night; anything that people wanted to put up.

The movie flashes through the time when Mark first started making Facebook, and four years ater to when he was being sued by the Winklevoss brothers (both played by Armie Hammer) for steling their idea and from his old best friend Eduardo (Andrew Garfield) for screwing him out of the company. Another important person in the rise of Facebook was Napster founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) who is a bit of a wild guy and he isn’t afraid to do whats best for him over everybody else.

This movie was a roller coaster of emotions. I felt really connected to the characters and felt bad for the things that happened to certain ones. The one thing I loved about this movie was that there were really no big name actors and they still pulled off an astonishing movie. It just goes to show that you do not need to have the big stars to make a great movie and sell well. Aaron Sorkin is a very intelligent writer. He made boring things like writing codes, interesting and really kept the audience involved. I enjoyed this movie, would recommend it to anyone and thought it was top-notch.

Sleep? Nahhh

So, I woke up at 7:30 AM on the 20th and have not gone to bed yet and now it is currently 7 AM on the 21st. Me and my buddy Shain had a really good talk about everything until about 5 AM and now I havent been able to sleep. The good news is that I was bored, and when I’m bored, I look for things. I found out how to get a free version of Maya through their main website. For those of you who do not know, Maya is a 3D Animation software and it is probably the most advanced one out there. It’s downloading right now. I can’t wait to play around with it! Sleep?! Who needs it!

The Fighter

Without giving too much away, “The Fighter” is a movie  based on a true story about two brothers, Mickey Ward (Mark Wahlberg) and Dick Eklund (Christian Bale). Dick is an old time boxer whose claim-to-fame was that he knocked down Sugar Ray and he is the (self-proclaimed) “Pride of Lowell”. Mickey is his younger brother who is also a boxer who gets mistreated not only in the ring but also by his family. As the movie begins, Mickey has already been boxing for a little bit and recently has had a dry run where he has lost 3 matches in a row. Dick along with Police Sergeant Mickey Ward (played by himself) start trainging him to get him to become a better fighter and not just be a stepping stone for other fighter anymore. His mother, Alice (Melissa Leo) manages him and gets him gigs but seems to care more about her son Dick than Mickey. Through the movie, Mickey meets a bartender named Charlene (Amy Adams) and she stands up for him when nobody else will.

This movie was simply amazing. The storyline, drama, acting were all something to be appreciated about. This movie developed so many different emotions in me. Sometimes you wanted to cry, sometimes characters made you mad, and at other times the movie just made me crack up. It was the perfect mix between drama and comedic one-liners to lift the tension. The story was very engrossing also and got you to really understand the characters.

Christian Bale stole the show with his portrayal of Dickey Eklund. He really got into this role and at times I found it hard to believe that this was the same actor who plays Bruce Wayne in “The Dark Knight”. I have a new found respect for Bale that I do not have with many actors out there in this generation but he really showed how dynamic he was. Another amazing actress was Melissa Leo who played Mickey’s mom and manager. At time you loved her, sometimes you hated her but the one thing that stayed constant was that you saw how determined she was to take care of her family and in her heart she was trying to do what was best for everybody to be happy.

“The Fighter” is an amazing movie, an amazing story, and I would recommend it to anybody. Bale should definitely get the Supporting Actor Oscar for his role. If you haven’t seen the fighter yet than you should as soon as you can. This will most-likely be nominated for Best Picture and could compete against the top runner’s “Black Swan”, and “The Kings Speech”.
